Accountability Now (formerly IFAISA, the Institute for Accountability in South Africa) is a not for profit, civil society organisation based in Cape Town, South Africa working to exact accountability from government, parastatals and the private sector. They call upon the leaders of South Africa to be responsive to the needs and rights of ordinary people as enshrined in South Africa’s renowned post–apartheid Constitution.
Through their various projects, advocacy efforts and public interest litigation they highlight areas in which the Constitution is not being honoured, upheld and respected. They hold themselves accountable to and act on behalf of the South African citizenry by representing the public interest and are best known for their work in the anti–corruption field.
Our funding has enabled them to litigate regarding delivery of the right to adequate basic education for South Africa’s children.
