We funded the Potter Chair of Nephrology at University College London. Professor Robert Kleta was appointed to this post, having trained as a paediatrician and physiologist in Germany and in metabolic medicine and in genetics in the USA. His work involves the study and clinical aspects and genetics of rare metabolic and kidney disorders.

In collaboration with colleagues from Great Ormond Street Hospital, the Royal Free Hospital and with scientists from around the world his group described a new disease (EAST syndrome) affecting multiple organ systems (published in an article in the New England Journal of Medicine, 7 May 2009).
